Engineer Requests $100,000 for Jay Z Master Recording Tapes, Just Blaze Responds
(Street Life CIty News) Jay Z owns his own master recordings of all of his albums, legally. However, an opportunistic former engineer of his, Chauncey Mahan has attempted to obtain $100,000 in exchange for master recording tapes of Jay Z songs from 1998-2002.
Mahan had possession of the tapes for over a decade in a Northridge, California storage facility. This past Friday (April 18th), Mahan contacted Live Nation requesting the $100,000 as a “storage fee” for the recordings. Live Nation arranged the meeting and then informed the Los Angeles Police Department of Mahan’s actions.
Mahan was not arrested but was detained and taking in for questioning. Reportedly Live Nation filed a grand larceny complaint against Mahan since the master recordings went missing in 2002.
Mahan is credited for engineering on albums for Terror Squad, Beanie Sigel, 112 and others over a 15 year span. Hours after the news of Mahan’s alleged extortion, frequent Jay Z collaborator, Just Blaze shed light on Mahan’s relationship with Jay.
On his personal Twitter account, Just Blaze spoke on Mahan’s ineptitude as a producer, most notably on Jay Z’s The Dynasty album:

Nas Teams With Google & Microsoft To Offer Tech Scholarships
They say Nas’ lyrics are borderline scientific, but we’re willing to bet you didn’t see this coming. The Queensbridge rapper has teamed with Microsoft and Google to offer tech scholarships, and the rapper’s financial aid will specifically cater to African-Americans and Latinos. Reports General Assembly: Tech has a serious diversity problem — so General Assembly (GA), the New York City private vocational school for programming and engineering, is now opening an “Opportunity Fund” to give scholarships to women, veterans, African-Americans and Latinos. The first contributors to the fund are Google, Microsoft, Hirepurpose and Nas. Yes, rapper and recording artist Nas, the man who brought us “Illmatic.” The partnership with Nas began when he met GA cofounder Matt Brimer at SXSW, but Nas isn’t the only media figure to approach GA about these kinds of programs. Each of the donors is taking on a target demographic. Google will provide scholarship money for women, Hirepurpose and Microsoft will fund veterans and Nas’s QueensBridge Venture Partners will sponsor African-Americans and Latinos. Life is still good for Nas and the students he will be looking out for with these scholarships. Nas’ debut album, Illmatic, recently hit the 20-year milestone.

This is so tragic.
According to Raw Story:
A 6-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed a South Carolina woman after finding a gun in the back seat of a car.
Investigators said the boy shot 22-year-old Alexandra Anita Santos, who was riding in the passenger seat of the car, on Thursday afternoon after finding the semiautomatic handgun.
Police said the boy was the son of the driver, who was described as a friend of Santos.
Authorities said the single shot went through the seat, struck the woman’s back, and traveled into her chest.
The car was moving at the time of the shooting, police said.
Investigators aren’t sure who owns the gun or why it was on the rear floorboard when the child found it.
We all have to do better when it comes to keeping these guns out of the hands of children.

A heartsick Virginia man was arrested Thursday for snatching a woman’s dentures out of her mouth, allegedly because she shot down his romantic advances.
Linwood Harris, 63, of Richmond, was facing robbery charges after cops said he reached into the woman’s mouth and pulled out her false teeth during an attack at her apartment on Tuesday night.
The bizarre incident appeared to be a case of fatal dental attraction.
The victim said Harris had a crush on her and bought her the dentures in an attempt to woo her after she lost her teeth in a car crash a year and a half ago, local CBS 6 reported.
No $200 date, no flowers, no romantic walks on the beach. This ninja tried to bag ol’ girl by copping DENTURES!
The woman said Harris was smitten with her, but she’d made it clear she wasn’t interested.
“I hadn’t been able to afford dentures,” the woman told CBS 6 earlier this week.
“He says to me, ‘You’re a pretty girl, but I see you feel self-conscious about not having your teeth,’” she said.
“And he said, ‘I want to surprise you. I’m going to buy dentures for you,’” she said.
Harris picked up the tab for the false chompers at a local Affordable Dentures shop.

“I told him I think it’s best you just don’t call me anymore because you constantly ring my phone, you come over here knocking on my door and I don’t like it,” she said.
The woman said she found Harris waiting for her outside her apartment when she went to do her laundry at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Drug Addicted Mother Gives Birth In Motel And Chews Through Umbilical Cord
A premature baby born Friday night in a motel bathtub after his mother said she went on a crack cocaine binge remains in critical condition on a ventilator at UF Heatlh Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
The Florida Department of Children and Families has taken custody of the baby and his 11-month-old brother, DCF spokeswoman Kristi Gray said. The baby’s brother has been placed in foster care.
Their 37-year-old mother, Chrystal A. Hassell, is on suicide watch at the Marion County Jail, meaning she is under constant supervision. She faces a charge of child neglect. She will be evaluated by medical professionals and will get whatever assistance she needs, Gray said, and the agency will work with her.
On Saturday, hours after her arrest, Hassell said she has been using drugs since she was a teenager, including while pregnant. She said she has a 16-year-old daughter who was born addicted to drugs. She said she did not know she was pregnant with her third child until early March when she felt movement in her stomach. She went to Munroe Regional Medical Center for a checkup and was told she was approximately six to seven months pregnant.
Hassell said she decided not to smoke crack but the cravings were too great. The day before her baby was born, she went on a binge. She said she had the child in a bathtub at Vacation Host Inn on South Pine Avenue and cut the umbilical cord with her teeth. She said the baby began turning blue so she called 911.

Vincent Terry, 43, the father of the baby and his brother, is at the Marion County Jail on a warrant out of El Pasco County, Colo., for domestic violence, attempted murder and a violation of probation on possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
Terry said Tuesday during an interview at the jail that he did not know his girlfriend was abusing drugs for 24 hours before their baby was born. He said she told him she was tired and wanted to lie down.
“I knew she had a history of doing drugs, but not that she was doing drugs. She just found out she was pregnant,” he said.
Terry said he and Hassell attended a court hearing Tuesday to determine the status of their two children. He said his family provided the names of immediate family members whom the children can stay with and that DCF officials plan to do background checks to see if they qualify to take care of them.
These two got a lot of nerve to think that they deserve visitation rights to these kids. A pack of wild dogs could probably raise them better than Chrystal and Vincent!
